Chase Court History

The historic property at 1112 Saint Paul Street now known as Chase Court was built in 1879. It was built as the parish house of Christ Episcopal Church, the building sitting on the corner of Saint Paul and Chase Streets.

In the Episcopal tradition, a parish house is a place used for meetings, events, and in this instance, worship.

Both buildings are solidly-constructed of stone with arched, leaded-glass windows, delightfully intricate historic woodwork and soaring ceilings, all in the Gothic Revival style—which at the time was a new ecclesiastical architectural style just being introduced into the United States.

Christ Episcopal Church ceased to exist in 1986. The church and parish house were subsequently separated and sold. The building and grounds that comprise Chase Court are now privately owned.

LGBTQ+ and Inclusivity

Same-sex weddings are near and dear to our heart. Chase Court has been the venue for nearly 80 LGBTQ+ weddings, for couples from nine states! David even wrote a column about weddings called Getting The Wedding You Want for Baltimore OUTloud, Maryland’s LGBT newspaper.

We’ve been doing same-sex weddings at Chase Court since 2013, when same-sex weddings became legal in Maryland, and two years before they became legal under federal law. Before that, we did commitment ceremonies.

We welcome, honor, and affirm couples whose spirituality, sexuality, gender identities, racial identities, or ways of being are less accepted elsewhere.
